WHAT TO WEAR ON A CRUISE

We want to make sure you are always prepared when cruising with MSC. Below are some suggestions to make sure you pack appropriate clothing for the various activities you will undertake during your cruise.

Casual wear is recommended for daytime attire. Shorts and T-shirts are permitted.

A more polished look is recommended for evening wear when dining in the Main Dining Rooms and Speciality Restaurants and while enjoying the entertainment in the theatre, bars, and lounges. Collared shirts, tailored trousers or shorts, skirts, and dresses are suggested. Layers and a light jacket or sweater are suggested for cooler nights and in the ship’s air-conditioned public areas.

On Gala Night, dress to impress! Whether that means a tuxedo, suit and tie, evening gown or cocktail dress, or perhaps it’s your very best jeans and polo shirt, your attire should fit your own level of elegance. The only thing required is your smile.

We organise various daytime and evening Theme Parties on board. You may wish to bring bright fun clothes for the Sunshine Party and something white for the White Party.

Specific restrictions may be enforced by onboard staff members including restaurant hostesses and management. At no point is swimwear allowed in any formal dining venue for any meal, including breakfast and lunch. Shorts, flip-flops, and tank tops are not allowed for Evening Wear or Gala Night in the Main Dining Rooms, Speciality Restaurants, or MSC Yacht Club. T-shirts are not allowed to be worn for Gala Night. Dress code rules that are posted outside the buffet should be followed.

When going ashore, guests are responsible for ensuring that their attire is respectful of local customs, religious requirements, and legal regulations of the destination. Many ports of call have specific standards of modesty or decorum, particularly when visiting religious sites, government buildings, or rural communities.

Guests are strictly advised that in certain jurisdictions, the wearing of camouflage patterns or any clothing resembling military/police uniforms is a criminal offence and may lead to fines, confiscation of the garments, or detention by local authorities for security reasons.

It is the guest’s sole responsibility to research and comply with the laws of each visited country.

MSC Cruises shall not be held liable for any legal consequences, fines, or denied entries resulting from inappropriate or prohibited attire.

To fully appreciate the exclusive ambiance of the MSC Yacht Club, dressing appropriately in its various venues is highly recommended.

MSC Yacht Club Restaurant:

To preserve the exceptional ambiance of this private restaurant we kindly ask you to dress in a way that complements its exclusiveness.

By day: Feel at ease in casual wear, including t-shirts and tops, but to maintain a respectful atmosphere, swimwear must be avoided at any time.

By night: We kindly ask that you dress in smart casual attire. This includes options such as dresses, skirts, long trousers, jeans, and button-down tops. However, please avoid shorts and flip-flops.

For Gala evenings: Elegant and glamorous attire is strongly recommended with sophisticated outfits such as cocktail dresses, skirts, slacks, designer jeans, elegant dress tops, blazers, or even tuxedo suits and gowns.

MSC Yacht Club Top Sail Lounge:

By day: Casual clothing, including t-shirts and tops, is perfectly acceptable, but we kindly request that you do not wear swimwear at any given time.

By night: Smart casual attire is required for entry to the Top Sail Lounge. Feel free to wear dresses, skirts, long trousers, jeans, and button-down tops. However, please avoid wearing shorts and flip-flops.

MSC Yacht Club Grill & Bar: Wear your swimwear, t-shirts, tank tops, hats, and sunglasses as you please. Just remember that topless bathing is not allowed in this family-friendly area.

For sports lovers, gym shoes and tracksuit are must-haves when using our cutting-edge gym and attending yoga and dance courses, where available.

For cruises sailing towards the Svalbard islands and Polar areas, please ensure you have adequate polar clothing.

For shore excursions, which may include visits to religious sites, we advise that appropriate clothing be worn (covered knees and shoulders).

Upon arrival at the cruise terminal, your first stop should be the terminal luggage drop-off area, where you can identify and hand over your luggage to the porters (please refer to the ground staff on site to identify the exact location).

Once you have handed over your luggage to the porters, you may proceed with the check-in and embarkation process.

At disembarkation, please follow the instructions provided by the Ship.

Please note that it is mandatory to collect your luggage in the disembarkation hall and proceed through Customs.

Specific information will be provided by the Ship.

LOST OR DAMAGED LUGGAGE & ITEMS: A QUICK GUIDE

What should I do if my luggage is damaged or lost?

  • Go to the Guest Services Desk on board to report the issue.
  • Our staff will help you complete the mandatory Luggage Form, which is required to process any claim.
  • Once the form has been submitted, we’ll do our best to resolve the matter during your cruise. Depending on the circumstances, this may include finding your luggage, replacing damaged luggage, or offering appropriate compensation.

AFTER YOUR CRUISE

If your luggage was damaged or lost during disembarkation, please follow these important steps:

  • Please provide a copy of the form to your Travel Agent, making sure to include your booking number.

Important: If you have travel insurance that covers damaged or lost luggage, we also recommend that you contact your insurance provider directly, as they may offer additional support or reimbursement.

Additional tip: if your luggage was lost during a flight booked through MSC Cruises, please contact the airline directly, as they are responsible for handling any luggage-related issues during air travel.

What compensation is available for damaged or lost luggage after the cruise?

MSC Cruises may offer compensation for luggage that was damaged or lost during your cruise, depending on the circumstances and the documentation provided. The maximum compensation available is:

  • Up to €100 per item for damaged luggage
  • Up to €600 per item for lost luggage

These amounts apply regardless of the original value of the luggage or its contents.

What is MSC Cruises’ responsibility for damaged or lost luggage?

While we handle all luggage with care, MSC Cruises, its employees, and agents cannot be held responsible for the loss, damage, or theft of luggage or personal belongings.

Our liability for lost, damaged, or undelivered luggage is limited and fully outlined in our Booking Terms and Conditions, which we encourage you to read carefully.

Will MSC Cruises ship my lost item to me?

If your lost item is found, shipping may be arranged at your expense. The available shipping options and costs will depend on your location and the size and weight of the item. Once your item has been located, you will receive all the necessary details to arrange delivery.

If you are travelling to your departure port by air, please check the size and weight limitations on your luggage at the time of booking. Airlines reserve the right to charge a supplement for excess luggage. MSC Cruises accepts no responsibility for issues arising during airport departure or arrival.

In the unfortunate event of a luggage handling error by the airline, we offer a luggage recovery service. Working with the Lost & Found offices of each airport, we will make every effort to track your luggage and, when possible, have it sent directly to the ship at one of the subsequent ports of call. In order to help you trace any lost luggage in the most efficient way, we ask you to present a copy of the P.I.R. (Property Irregularity Report) prepared at the Lost Property Office of the airport where you reported the luggage missing.
